Allison came to Duke University School of Medicine to serve as the director of OPSD in August 2019. She oversees a small but mighty team responsible for providing research funding; career mentorship; education and professional development; and opportunities for integrated research and clinical training; and serving as a central resource for students, trainees, and junior faculty interested in physician-scientist careers.

Allison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Millsaps College in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the staff at Duke, she held positions with the American Diabetes Association, where she oversaw a national research program; with the Society for Public Health Education, where she oversaw operations for conferences, continuing education, and professional publications; and with the Endocrine Society, where she managed scientific programs and continuing medical education activities.
