Julie served as a Clinical Pharmacist on the Health Analytics and Patient Safety Initiatives team for Duke University Health System (DUHS) after coming to Duke University Hospital (DUH) in 2006. Prior to that she spent 8 years as a Sr. Clinical Supplies Project Manager for a cGMP contract packaging company, 3 years as a Clinical Pharmacist in Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and 8 years as the Manager of Quality Improvement/Investigational Drug Services/ Drug Use Evaluation and ACTG Pharmacist at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York.
She graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1987 with a BS in Pharmacy, and completed ASHP General Hospital Pharmacy Residency at the Erie County Medical Center- Buffalo, New York in 1988. She conducted graduate work in Drug Literature Evaluation at the SUNY Buffalo School of Pharmacy where she was also a Clinical Instructor in Pharmacy Practice. She completed the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 10X10 Program at Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), and is currently a candidate in the Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Informatics at OHSU. She is a Six Sigma– Black Belt , and a TeamSTEPPS Certified Master Trainer.
Her research and educational interests include patient safety and quality improvement and she is named on 2 grants: Automated Adverse Drug Event Detection and Intervention through AHRQ, and as a Co-Investigator with an Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, Covidien Research Award entitled: Computerized Surveillance of Opioid Related Adverse Drug Events in the Perioperative Period Jan 2010- Dec 2011.
