PREVENTABLE Study Participants Gather for Appreciation Event

The Duke Primary Care Research Consortium (PCRC) team hosted a participant appreciation and study update event for the PREVENTABLE trial at the community room of Duke Research at Pickett Road on November 12. Interest exceeded expectations, prompting organizers to cap attendance. The trial looks at whether taking a commonly used heart medication could help prevent dementia in adults 75 years or older.

The event drew 69 in-person attendees, with more than 55 additional participants from Duke and Kannapolis, North Carolina, sites joining virtually.

Ranee Chatterjee, MD, MPH, and Bryan Batch, MD, MHS, welcomed participants, who enjoyed memory games and boxed lunches. Kathleen Welsh-Bohmer, PhD, delivered an overview on Healthy Brain Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention, followed by an update from the PREVENTABLE Coordinating Center provided by Karen Alexander, MD.  .

Participants engaged in a question and answer session, shared feedback, and connected with fellow enrollees.

A research team member summed up the day: “It made me so proud! This is how research is supposed to be done!”
