About CERI

The Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) provides infrastructure, education, and resources to facilitate translational research at Duke University focusing on integrating resources and programmatic research areas across campus. It is the institutional home for the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Community Engaged Research Initiative (CERI) is part of the Equity and Learning Health Communities pillar at CTSI and primarily funded by the CTSA. The goal of CERI is to facilitate equitable, authentic, and robust community-engaged research to improve health and health equity. Job Description

The CERI faculty co-director will report to the faculty lead of the Equity and Learning Health Communities Pillar. This person will work collaboratively with the current CERI co-director to envision, develop, and lead services and programs that support health-related community-engaged research at Duke. The faculty co-director will have experience in community-engaged research and proven success in leading team-based transdisciplinary, clinical/translational, community-based, or basic science research. This position includes both strategic and operational responsibilities requiring 10% of total professional effort.


Responsibilities
  • Represent and champion CERI with leadership and faculty across the university

  • Build and sustain strong equitable relationships with community partners to elevate community-engaged research opportunities

  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support CERI activities, including government funding, philanthropy, and industry partnerships

  • Provide faculty leadership by working collaboratively with CERI co-director and assistant director to:

    • Co-develop a strategic plan for CERI

    • Develop capacity building opportunities for both researchers and community partners

    • Inform implementation and dissemination strategies to enhance the translation of research findings into practice

    • Develop and implement community-engaged research strategies to address health disparities, research policies, and improve health equity

  • Represent and communicate CERI activities and successes to CTSI leadership

  • Attend and participate in required CERI meetings, including but not limited to: CERI team, CTSI pillar leadership, CTSI townhalls and CTSI Executive Leadership Team meetings when requested

  • Assist with planning, oversight, and budgetary strategy

  • Advocate at Duke for critical resources to optimize CERI impact (e.g., financial and human resources, inter-institutional infrastructure)

  • Support evaluation of CERI program offerings

  • Facilitate connections and share resources with other CTSA hubs

  • Help disseminate CERI findings and activities to relevant internal, external, and community partners and interested parties
