Join us for a transformative, virtual workshop focused on the core principles of gender equity in research. Participants will explore the profound impact of a diverse participant pool, emphasizing the significance of LGBTQIA+ representation in research.

Key topics will include:

  • Guiding principles for promoting gender equity in research

  • Importance of distinguishing between sex, gender, and sexual orientation to create a diverse and inclusive participant pool

  • Value this diversity brings to research rigor and generalizability

  • Ethical considerations of using sex or gender as inclusion/exclusion criteria and learn strategies for mitigating potential harms such as misgendering or deadnaming

Attendees will examine best practices for inclusively collecting sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data, using accurate and respectful language in study protocols and participant materials, and increasing the representation of LGBTQIA+ individuals in research. Additionally, we will discuss recent legislative impacts on clinical research and the importance of Codes of Conduct (CoCs) in protecting participants. The 5Ws Framework will also be introduced and applied to gender equity in research.

This workshop is ideal for faculty, research staff, trainees, students, and community researchers who seek to develop more equitable research.


This workshop offers:

  • One Continuing Education Credit*: AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, ANCC, Attendance, JA-Credit-AH

  • RCR-200 credit for participants who attend for more than 60 minutes and GS715 RCR credit for graduate students.
