EIR Virtual Workshop | Incorporating a Racial Equity Lens through 5Ws Framework in Research

Join us for an enlightening, virtual workshop that delves deep into the heart of racial equity and its vital connection to the research landscape. Through this workshop, participants will be better equipped with actionable strategies to actively advance racial equity. By the end of the session, they will have a deeper understanding of how to incorporate a racial equity lens into their research and will have learned practical steps to implement these principles in their work.

Thursday, Jan. 23 | Noon-1:30 p.m. | Zoom

Presented by:

Co-Director, Center for Equity in Research

Our workshop will:

  • Guide participants through essential components of racial equity in research, focusing on the 5Ws Framework (Who, What, When, Where, and Why).

  • Explore the complex roles of race, racism, anti-racism, and racial equity within research and examine systemic barriers through real-world examples and historical contexts.

  • Pose key questions of who is included, what resources are allocated, when research activities occur, where research is conducted, and why certain approaches are chosen to help participants learn practical strategies for embedding equity in their projects and research settings.

This workshop is ideal for faculty, research staff, trainees, students, and community researchers who seek to develop more equitable research practices. Recommended reading: The 5Ws of Racial Equity in Research: A Framework for Applying a Racial Equity Lens Throughout the Research Process
